Mrs. Meenakshi Rajagopal, IAS (R)

MRS. MEENAKSHI RAJAGOPAL, IAS., [R]

Chairperson and Founder — G S Empower Skill Training, Tamil Nadu

Mrs. Meenakshi Rajagopal is a 1984 batch I.A.S. Officer and has a legacy of serving society over the course of her illustrious career of 35+ years in the government. She is the daughter of an IAS Officer, Punjab cadre, and is married to Mr. Rajagopal I.A.S. Prior to joining the civil services, Mrs. Meenakshi worked with the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) and was selected for the Indian Economics Services.

During her tenure as an IAS officer, she made significant contributions to the fields of higher and technical education, social welfare, rural development, skill training and small industries in Tamil Nadu. She was deeply influenced by the values and principles instilled by her late parents, Shri Kanwar Gulwant Singh I.A.S. and Mrs. Shakuntla Kanwar — both of whom hailed from Himachal Pradesh, though worked throughout in Punjab — helping one and all by going out of their way and by ethical living. Known for their simplicity, integrity, and compassionate nature, they were highly respected for their strong moral values and commitment to public service. Their guidance and example played a significant role in shaping Mrs. Meenakshi's character, leadership, and dedication to serving society. Their legacy of humility and ethical living continues to inspire her personal and professional journey.

Under her thoughtful leadership during her 5+ years as Director General of Training, Tamil Nadu, she turned around the department and won first prize at the national level for conducting the maximum number of trainings in the country. She had the foresight to create financing options through Joint Liability Groups for poor coastal fisher women, enabling them to become entrepreneurs. The department continued creating impact during COVID-19 by adapting to digital training delivery. She is currently focused on empowering youth through skill development and disaster management training — emphasising problem solving by critical thinking and innovative solutions — as Chairperson of G S Empower Skill Training Trust (GSEST), Tamil Nadu.
